11/11/08: Changed the background to black and the text to white, a great suggestion from my friend =Dualmask !

DOWNLOAD for full view.

Just a very simple tutorial to easily color your scanned-in artwork in Photoshop! I remember the days before I learned this trick. it was tough. My Photoshopping life became MUCH better when I learned this technique. :)

I made the tutorial for one of my good DA friends! He scans in his sketch, then inks and colors it with Photoshop. I know inking with a mouse SUCKS, so I hope he tries this method and likes it. :) It works with sketches or inked scans. I used to ink my work by hand and color it with this method.

Huh, did I teach you this method? I know I showed this to some of my friends. Either you or Jen. Heck, it might not have been either of you, but another friend from school. I've shown this to many friends. I learned it from my friend Nino :iconmadazn:, and I was sharing the wealth. :D Yoli has a different method of making the white disappear and all that's left is the black. I think her method is a little too much complicated. Multiply works good for me. :D

Oh and  on explaining the white problem. It has to do with values, it's too harsh. In painting, I always tone my canvas, since it's not good to leave it white. That or make sure I get all the paint on the canvas before I start working with value.

Btw, there are good tutorials on digital inking with the pen tool. :O I remember coming across one that showed me something I didn't know! :D I haven't inked digitally in a long time... >.> And I have a tablet! :O

Wow, I wrote a lot... Sorry, i was rambling! :D Good tut, and keep it up! Teaching what you learned is fun! :D
:iconkookybat:
Nah, I learned it from a tutorial from a webcomic guy (did you ever read "Mall Monkeys"?). :)

Of course I haven't had to use this method since the tablet.. *hugs tablet* But I actually drew some stuff in my sketchbook last night. :D

I'll have to try inking with the pen tool in Photoshop sometime! I bet my lines will come out a lot nicer. Stupid unsteady hand...

Thanks so much Tim, you make me feel like I shoulda put more effort into this thing! XD And don't worry about rambling, I like it. :3

YESH try it, you'll love it! XD
